About Jay Maan
My journey in the travel industry began in 1999, guiding safaris in Kruger National Park and the Greater Kruger area. Over the years, I’ve hosted countless tours as a guide, regional guide, and tour leader, always driven by a passion for connecting people to the wild, the land, and each other.
It was in the bush that my love for open-fire cooking was born—those early days around the campfire ignited something deeper. Today, I work as an open-fire chef, hosting immersive culinary experiences. As Mr Braai Guy, I combine my love for travel, storytelling, and cooking to create unforgettable moments where fires are lit, flavours are shared, and life slows down—just as it should.
With over 25 years in South Africa’s travel industry, I’ve not only guided tours but also built detailed itineraries and managed tailor-made experiences for international visitors through my own tour operating companies.
From 2009 to 2013, I collaborated with Nikon South Africa, pioneering photographic safaris across Southern Africa. We launched the first dedicated photographic vehicle in a Big 5 reserve and specialist photo safaris on the Chobe River in Botswana.
Today, I design unforgettable family holidays that connect people to nature, each other, and extraordinary stories.
